Chef Darryl

Davey

Restaurant life has run in Darryl’s family for three generations and cooking has run in his blood from a very young age. He credits his mother and grandmother for sparking his love for cooking and getting him into the kitchen. But it was local chef, Darren Johns, who instilled in Darryl an appreciation for food and showed him how to turn his passion and skills into a career.

Darryl made his start at The King George Inn as a dishwasher and gradually worked his way up the kitchen hierarchy at a variety of restaurants in Northumberland County. He helped open Trattoria Gusto in 2010, later moving on as head chef at Black Beans Steakhouse.

Now, Darryl has returned to Gusto’s as executive chef focusing on producing rustic Italian food made from scratch, using fresh local ingredients to create the best possible flavours and presenting them in ways customers will appreciate.

“To have a plate of food placed in front of you that you can marvel at, that’s what our customers deserve.”

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING!

We felt welcome the moment we stepped in the door of this restored old building. Our room was large, well decorated and had a great view of the river. Comfortable bed with great pillows. Walking distance to the Capitol Theatre, great restaurants and parks.

A truly beautiful hotel

We decided to stay a night here to break up a long trip. It is a beautiful hotel with a great patio restaurant. The hotel overlooks a small river and the rooms were spacious, comfortable and very clean. Staff were extremely helpful. Beautiful shops, restaurants and walking trail just outside your doorstep.

Went in for an afternoon lunch. It had a nice dining room atmosphere and nice sun shining into the eating area. The patio will be completely beautiful in the summer time with the water flowing beside it!
Our waitress was lovely, our drink orders were taken right away and then we were offered some bread and oil/balsamic.

I had the seafood linguini which was amazing. Noodles cooked al dente, two huge scallops, 3 or 4 large shrimps, lots and lots of flavorful sundried tomatoes that added such a great taste. Great garlic and oil base. 9/10

My husband had the chicken parm sandwich and Verde salad. Chicken was nice and tasty, thick and flavorful, breading was seasoned well and the bun held together well. Big portion of salad which was nice. He liked it- 8/10

Bathroom was clean and well stocked. Bar area was classy and nice! We would return in summer or fall for the patio.
